Kim Hollamby | The anchor swallowed

Watch this video and wonder at the forces involved. Not so much the bit at the beginning where the view is from the wheelhouse but a few frames in where you can see the ships internals bending. Eek!

I took a passage from Le Havre to Southampton in 1985 on OCL’s Tokyo Bay container ship and remember being shown a cabin kitted out with strain gauges - the loss of the Derbyshire five years before was mentioned as a reason for the interest in how ship hulls react to different loads and pressures. Looking at this video I can now see the reason for concern!
